Telonio | Kardamyli, Mani
Standing at the port of Kardamyli since the 18th century, the old customs house is one of the area’s most distinctive landmarks. Its restoration transformed a historic building into a contemporary home while preserving its strong connection to the architecture and landscape of Mani.
Restoration
The restoration respected the original fortified Mani architecture, bringing the historic stonework back to the foreground while adapting the buildings to contemporary residential use.
Local materials and traditional techniques played a central role, including marble from the Itilo area, olive wood and local pebbles.
A quiet interior
Furniture and appliances were deliberately selected to remain visually restrained. The intention was to allow the original stone walls, floors and architectural details to remain the dominant elements of the space. Turquoise green provides the main accent colour throughout the building, introducing a contemporary note without overwhelming its character.
