Paratiritirio | Isna, Mani
Paratiritirio — “the observatory” — is a secluded house perched at the edge of a gorge in Isna, Mani. The project brings together two historic structures that had stood side by side for centuries, creating a home deeply connected to both its landscape and its past.
Two structures, one home
The project joined two independent buildings into a single home. Both structures required careful stabilisation and restoration, while the steep surrounding terrain was incorporated into a continuous relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces.
One of its most distinctive features is the former water cistern, transformed into an atmospheric indoor pool while preserving the character of the original reservoir.
Old & new
The architecture deliberately brings together contrasts: old and new, traditional and contemporary, understated and luxurious. Local materials preserve the connection to Mani, while references to the owners’ Thai heritage introduce another layer to the interiors.
Waxed concrete, bronze, reclaimed walnut and handcrafted Moroccan zellige tiles are combined without losing the simplicity and weight of the original buildings.
